I'm not saying I believe there are feral wood people, but I definitely believe that there are people who live in the wild. First piece of evidence: I read a book where the author once encountered a "loincloth man" in the canyons of Southern Utah who was living off the grid and eating squirrels and stuff. He was friendly, though, not feral. Second piece of evidence: in a recent episode of my favorite true crime podcast, they talked about a woman who was attacked and kidnapped in the woods by 2 men who were living off-grid. They took her because one of the men needed "a mountain wife." I don't know that I would describe these people as feral, but definitely wild and dangerous. (The woman lived BTW).

Rant: In response to the makeup rant that was shared in this episode. My rant is that I hate it when men unsolicitedly share their opinions about what women should/shouldn't do, especially when they frame it in a way that implies that women's actions should serve men and their preferences. I'm glad that Emily pointed this out and clarified that women wear makeup for themselves and not others. Men, IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU. Women don't wear makeup to attract men, and thinking that they do is misogynistic, patriarchal, and self-centered. I understand what this person was saying about wearing less makeup as a dating strategy, but not everything needs to be about attracting a mate, and maybe men just need to adjust their priorities.

I probably sound like a raging feminist (because I am one), and I understand if this rant doesn't vibe with the tone of the podcast, but I just wanted to share!

Love the pod, you guys are amazing!

Megan! Great comment. I hope it sparks a discussion.

Four things:

1. It’s like you want Emily to hate nature. Why are you encouraging this behavior?

2. I actually shared this rant in part because I thought Emily’s thoughts were super interesting and something I hadn’t considered before.

3. I actually do a lot in my daily life in the hopes of attracting a spouse, so I don’t mean to suggest that women are the only ones who do this.

4. I hope that women continue to share their unsolicited opinions about men, so I will continue to do so about women. Unsolicited, diverse opinions make life richer.

I think you should reiterate how much you love me, because some listeners might think you hate me after this post...

Love you! (even when you go off on me in the comment section)
